How often do you write a blog post?

I began this year with a resolve to reduce the number of posts I make, to get it down closer to one a day if I could.
Well, I'm not doing very well so far.

In 2008, the first year of this blog, I posted 456 times, a ratio of 1.24.
That works out to 5 times every 4 days.

So far this year I have posted 182 times in 122 days. The ratio is now 1.52
That is 3 times in 2 days, or 6 times in 4 days!

The primary purpose of this blog was a place to post my book reviews.
OK so there were 110 of them last year, and there has been 41 this year.
That totals 151 book reviews out of a total of 638 posts.
That means 487 of my posts are not actually book reviews: 75% (3/4) of them!
I've obviously found other things to write about!

Do other people share my dilemma?
So I've decided to run a poll to find out what fellow bloggers do.
I'll run the poll for 2 weeks.
Look for it in the right hand column: How often do you write a blog post?
The choices: often 3x a day, often 2x a day, daily, 3-4 x a week, 2x a week, weekly
And I hope you'll also come back and comment on this post.

  1. I chose the "less than weekly" option as I am famous for averaging one post every two months, which makes me certainly the slowest gun in the mystery blogosphere (and let us not speak of my French-speaking blog which has been dead for months) I forced my nature with the Edgar Week by posting on a daily basis, but it was pretty exhausting and time-consuming, and I don't think I'll do it again in the next future.

  2. In January I decided to blog 2-3 times a week, but somehow it grew to once a day, and on very few days I write two posts. I had some extra in March, though, because I participated in a quotation week.

  3. I write a post 5-6 times a week at the moment. Sometimes it's more and sometimes less. On a few days I write 2 posts. I haven't worked out how many are reviews etc - like you my main reason for writing at all was to record what I thought about what I'm reading. Now I also like to write about other topics, like places I've been to etc, post photos and add more information to the blog - eg an author index that I've just done.

I like doing your polls but I haven't experimented with putting one on my blog - not sure how to go about it and anyway I already spend too much time on the computer.

  4. I could easily post every day - I never seem to run out of ideas - but I try to give myself time off and days just to do comments instead!

  5. On an average I write 7 posts a week. That means more than one post a day.

Infact, while I was retreiving my blog from google reader, I found out that I post more of other stuff than book reviews.

BTW, everything distils into reading is my new blog. Please do visit it, subscribe to it or follow it! Do help me spread the word.

  6. Ideally I would like to post once a day, but lack of time - and content - seems to prevent that goal from becoming a reality. I am hopeful that once school is out I can develop a schedule that will help me achieve that.

I enjoy reading all posts -- and am in awe of those who DO post more than once a day :)

  7. Usually I post on average about three times a week unless I can plagiarise an idea from other bloggers and then I will run with that every day.

  8. I usually post twice a week, but I'll throw in a week or two that has more than that. I definitely post on more than book reviews. While reading is my biggest hobby, I garden, quilt, cook and so on. I blog about most of my hobbies.

Blogging is time-consuming so I generally try to keep it to once a day. If I have another topic, I'll schedule it to appear the next day rather than post twice. That way, people checking my blog may get something new on a new day rather than a bunch of posts all on one day!

  9. I guess over all my blogs I would average once a day. To solve the dilemma of 'messiness' I have my book reviews in one blog, my challenges in another and my 'fun and games' in a third. so they are not all mixed up in one. It was a decision I made for some reason at the start and I have stuck with it.

  10. Except at the end of the month and on the weekends, I keep my posting to one per day. On the weekends it can go as high as three a day.

  11. Hi!
I usually post once a day, but sometimes I can post as many as 3 times a day. Depends on what I'm doing I guess. Have a great evening!

  12. I haven't gone into detail on my stats but i'm at about 3-4 a week. In my case the majority are reviews (67 of 106 posts). I could easily spend more time on it but I do ration out my leisure time to some extent. I find it hard to keep up with blogs that have multiple posts a day and have unsubscribed from most of those that do - not that I have anything against people who do it - merely that I don't have the time to read it all.

  13. I am generally 5-6 a week. A better question for me is how many posts do I start each week and not end up posting! I guess it is complicated for me because I do do usually a post a day on my other blog as well.

  14. I feel happy if I post once a week. I'll write more in the summer.
