In 2007 female Australian novelist Sydney Bauer (who has an impossibly young photo on her website) won the Australian Sisters in Crime 2007 Davitt Award for Best Adult Crime novel published in 2006 with UNDERTOW, a remarkably well plotted debut novel.
A 16th birthday picnic with a boat cruise thrown in ends in death for one of the guests, and the mother of the birthday girl is accused of murder.
Rayna Martin chooses David Cavanaugh a Boston lawyer as her adviser and then defence lawyer. The dead girl's father is an American senator and he is determined on vengeance.
There have been 4 novels since then, the latest published early this year. Each features David Cavanaugh.
I rated UNDERTOW at 4.8 when I read it late in 2007.
Kerrie - Thanks for this review : ). So glad you're back safely, and I hope you had a good time. Will you be posting photos?
