Synopsis (Fantastic Fiction)

After her mother is found dead on a quiet road, possibly the victim of a hit-and-run, events and revelations lead Henrietta to wonder if her mother's death was accidental or murder.

My Take

A short novel, almost a novella, but a police procedural from a much underestimated Golden Age author.

Henrietta Jenkins lives with a widowed mother in a small village. She is approaching her 21st birthday and is at university. Her mother is killed crossing a road and the police determine it is murder. Henrietta get a rude shock when she finds out the woman she has called her mother is not, and that there is some doubt about who she actually is.

A quick and interesting read.

My rating: 4.5
