My Take
I jumped at the opportunity to begin a new series with this author. In contrast to his earlier two series the central figure is a young male detective, new to London. Detective Constable Jamie Day is dropped into the beginning of a series of grisly murders on his first day on the job. Jamie is raw and inexperienced and anxious to learn.
It is 1987, fear of AIDS is at its height, and the technology revolution is still about to impact: pagers not mobile phones and criminals are a little harder to track. I think the author does a good job of recreating the world of 40 years ago.
