Did your family get the message? Did you get a book or two for Christmas?
Mine are always a bit worried by the prospect of giving me something I've already read or something I'll hate.
I have to report that I didn't get one book, although my husband did give me the full set of DVDs for Rumpole of the Bailey, 15 DVDs altogether, and something I hadn't see before, a complete set of The Irish R.M. which starred Peter Bowles, 6 DVDs altogether, so we have some serious viewing ahead of us!
How did you get yours to give you books? Did you have a "wishlist"? What books did you get?
Why MYSTERIES? Because that is the genre I read.
Why PARADISE? Because that is where I live.
Among other things, this blog, the result of a 2008 New Year's resolution,
will act as a record of books that I've read, and random thoughts.

Kerrie - Oh, you are fortunate! Rumpole is a good 'un.
I didn't get any books, but i did get a nifty e-book reader.
btw, the visitor map in the sidebar is awesome!
Normally my husband avoids giving me books like the plague...but this year he came through: Three Kerry Greenwood books (Phryne Fisher series) and Detection Unlimited by Georgette Heyer. He earned major brownie points this year. In addition he gave me sets 3 and 4 of the Agatha Christie's Marple DVDs. Good husband! Still have two present opportunities ahead (tomorrow with his family and Tuesday with my mom & dad)...so maybe there'll be more.
I didn't get any books either - for the same reason as you - people never know what I've read. I too got some crime fiction DVDs though - AN UNSUITABLE JOB FOR A WOMAN which is the series inspired by the PD James Cordelia Grey character (more than the 2 stories she wrote though) and the Danish series THE EAGLE.
I didn't get a book either - strange ;-) But I had some lovely gifts and I hope you did too, Kerrie.
Best wishes
Maxine.
I received only three books for Christmas because, like so many other avid readers, family & friends aren't sure what I have/have not read. The only one of the three that could be considered a mystery is Eli Gottlieb's NOW YOU SEE HIM, about a man trying to uncover the truth behind a murder-suicide.
The other two books that I received underscore the fact that I wasn't always a middle-aged wife & mother (ha-ha): My husband gave me a biography of the late Joe Strummer (founding member of The Clash) and a book about the somewhat shadowy business side of hip-hop music.
Well, I gave books to several people, and I have received the short story collection for 2010 edited by Otto Penzler, and chosen also by Lee Child.
But, there's more time to go, as some relatives and I have yet to exchange gifts. So, books they will be, for me, paper books, for a relative, an e-book.
I got just one book. I think I must have been going on about the size of my TBR pile too much and my family think I have enough books to read!!! Still I did get some lovely presents as well.
