Greetings fellow Sunday Saloners
I've had a pretty light blogging week. I have been at two conferences away from home and found it difficult to get around to my usual regime of daily posts and reading blogs. I came home to hundreds of emails, and hundreds of blog posts and I've still got a lot to read.
I find myself reading two crime fiction books at the moment too.
That's pretty unusual for me - I like to finish one before I start another. It is not that I get confused with characters or settings or anything like that. I just like to be tidy!
I was happily in the middle of Michael Chabon's THE YIDDISH POLICEMEN'S UNION when I had to sit in the car for a while with a book that I had recently collected from the library: SILKS by Dick and Felix Francis. You've guessed it, I started reading and now I want to finish that one first.
The Poll: How big is the book that you are currently reading?
Last week I ran a poll about the number of pages in books.
25 people participated.
>500 pages - 4
>450 pages - 2
>400 pages - 6
>350 pages - 4
>300 pages - 3
>250 pages - 3
<250 pages - 3
Seems to show pretty conclusively that most of the books we are reading are pretty long.
64% are 350 pages or more.
This week's poll:
Where do the books you read generally come from?
Your choices are a library, new from the book shop, ARC or review copy, used book shop, from a friend, BookMooch, Book Crossing, other.
You can only choose one. Anyway come on over to my blog and take part in a bit of fun.
This week's posts:
Just two reviews:
THE SKELETON IN THE CLOSET, M.C. Beaton
SUCKED IN, Shane Maloney

I am kind of reading a mystery with a dog as the detective. Good one. Check my SS post!
Here is my SS post!
Kill word Verification
I am a library girl all the way! I rarely read novels twice, so I don't feel the need to own them. The only books that I've purchased in the past 10 years have been knitting books and books for my kids. I buy a knitting book only if it isn't available at the library AND it has several patterns that I definitely want to knit. The only books I buy for the kids are ones that I know will be on their reading lists and difficult to get at the library.
A year ago I would have said my books come new from bookstores...but I've caught the ARC bug and now at least half my books are ARCs or review copies.
I am an online book purchaser. I do generally keep my books for future reference.
I'm also a Sunday Saloner and I thought I'd check out your blog. I love that you're reading mysteries! Why? Because I'm a mystery author. :)
When people ask me what I do for a living, I love to tell them "I kill people off." hehe
Right now I'm reading an ARC of SIX SECONDS, Rick Mofina's new thriller. I'll be reviewing it next week. So far, it's fabulous.
I'll definitely keep you on my book reviewer list. One of my wonderful reviewers lives in Australia. Another lives in South Africa. So distance makes no difference to me. Besides, books are universal.
I think you might enjoy my psychic suspense novel Divine Intervention.

All the best and happy reading!

It is interesting to see how we swing from one means of acquiring a book to another over the years. I visit the library a lot. put my name down for books, but they are not very good at keeping up with the flow of new authors and many overseas authors don't get a nose in. Of course they are not just catering for crime fiction either. I hope you've all taken the poll.
You certainly have a lot of blogs Wendy. I don't know how you keep up with them all. I have Caribous Mum listed in my blog roll. When you say you caught the ARC bug, what do you mean?
Karen, I rarely refer to books once I've read them. I do still buy lots though, even though I patronise the library heavily as well as get sent copies for review. And then I discovered BookMooch! I always carry about 4 books with me when I am away for a day or two and longer holidays cause great logistical problems. My shelves, next to my bed, the table next to my computer all have heaps of unread crime fiction.
Thanks for dropping by Cheryl. I have visited your blog a few times now, but this time I've left a comment, and I have actually added you to my bulging blog roll. Happy writing
Gautami and Dani, thanks for dropping by. Isn't it amazing how blogging makes the world smaller?
