Why MYSTERIES? Because that is the genre I read.
Why PARADISE? Because that is where I live.
Among other things, this blog, the result of a 2008 New Year's resolution,
will act as a record of books that I've read, and random thoughts.

Melbourne Writers Festival, Aug 27 - Sep 5
I'm not going to get to MWF this year, but in 2010, MWF Aug 27 - Sep 5, has a rich stream of crime programming, investigating suspenseful thrillers, cluey detectives and shocking true stories.
The organisers have assembled a stellar line-up of national and international luminaries including Val McDermid (UK), Peter James (UK), Simon Kernick (UK), John Dale (NSW), Adrian Hyland (Vic), Malla Nunn (WA), Emili Rosales (Spain), RJ Ellory (UK), Mark Dapin (NWS), Jake Adelstein (Japan/USA), Angela Savage (Vic), Jane Clifton (Vic), Michael Robotham (NSW), and Miles Franklin Winner Peter Temple (Vic).
The crime programme kicks off with Val McDermid, and continues throughout MWF 2010.
Check the crime programme here.
And then don't forget: on Friday Sep 3 at 7pm crime writers and readers converge for the 15th Ned Kelly Awards, honouring the past year’s best Australian crime writing. Host Jane Clifton will convene a panel on the topic ‘That one can do right in a world gone wrong’. In addition, a Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Peter Doyle by Shane Maloney.
This is a FREE event - just make sure you get to the venue early to get a seat.
Check details here.

I am not sure I am going to make it to anything either because I am away for the first weekend, and then have visitors for the second part. I might try to at least get to the Ned Kelly awards
At least the ned kelly awards website has returned - still not shortlist or publicity though. Quite a pathetic effort again.
